This page is dedicated to my kindergarten class. I have been teaching since '97, all but one year has been in kindergarten. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE kindergarten. Teaching kindergarten is not what it used to be though. The curriculum standards are constantly changing and becoming tougher. Kindergarten is no longer described by the words "nap" and "playtime". This saddens me because even though times are changing, 5 year olds are still 5 year olds. Young children learn through play, and a teacher can learn so much about what the students know by watching them play. But with Race to the Top, the standards are set. Teachers and students are having to rise to the challenge. And YES, it is a challenge. Even with the high level of assessments and accountability hanging over my head, I still love what I do. It is my goal to find creative ways to reach my students and find ways to lead them to success. I find it an honor to be able to say that I have taught a child to read, write, add, and subtract. These are skills that they will use forever. It is a blessing to me to get to spend my day with these little ones.
